This Month’s Topic: The Transformational Learning Model
TranceFormational Learning is a model for designing or redesigning learning and training activities to create neural experiences that are more engaging and effective for the learner. TranceFormational Learning is a combination of elements, each of which comes with its own research base. Elements include current research on brain function and learning, and learning philosophies such as Learning-Centered Instruction, Reality Based Learning, Problem-Based Learning and others. Also, elements have been gleaned from the original work done in specific concepts of Neuro-linguistic programming, as well as from the critical study of the field of game design. TranceFormational Learning is the basis for the TranceFormational Learning Experience currently underway in an immersive cross-curricular learning experience housed on six SL islands.
Presenter: John Jamison (RL) and Virtual Bacon (SL)
John/Virtual is CEO and Creative Director of ImagiLearning, Inc. John works with educators, trainers, universities and corporations, as they attempt to adapt their practices to meet the changes of the emerging digital culture. John’s PhD was earned from his research on the experience of educators immersed into the online virtual environment. This research also led to the development of the TranceFormational Learning Model, a blend of educational theory, elements of effective game design, current brain research, and virtual environment platforms. TranceFormational Learning serves as the framework for John’s ongoing work with educators, individuals and businesses to reframe their goals and strategies to fit the needs of a culture that demands higher responsiveness, individualized experience, and personalized meaning from its learning experiences.
